How to Disable Emoji in WordPress to Improve Site Speed

Emoji support is added in WordPress since version 4.2.

It added a new JavaScript file (wp-emoji-release-min.js) in the head of web pages which slows down site speed a little bit. If your WordPress site doesn’t need Emoji, then follow the instructions below to disable Emoji without plugin.

Go to the theme folder of WordPress, open the functions.php file. Then add the following code at the bottom of the file.

// REMOVE WP EMOJI
remove_action('wp_head', 'print_emoji_detection_script', 7);
remove_action('wp_print_styles', 'print_emoji_styles');

remove_action( 'admin_print_scripts', 'print_emoji_detection_script' );
remove_action( 'admin_print_styles', 'print_emoji_styles' );

Save and close the file. That’s it!

You may need to add the above code again after upating WordPress theme.
