Increase Search CTR by Showing Star Ratings in Google Search Results

This tutorial will show you how to easily get star rating in Google search results for your web pages. The main benefits is a higher click through rate (CTR). It’s also a fast and easy way to increase user engagement.

The CTR we are talking about here is the times your web pages are clicked in search engine results page (SERP) divided by the times you web pages are shown in SERP. Higher CTR results in more organic search traffic to your website !

If you web pages get at least 3 stars out of 5, that means previous visitors had good experience with your web pages and new visitors are more likely to click on your web pages.

WordPress Star Rating Plug-in – Yet Another Stars Rating

Yet Another Stars Rating (YASR) is a free plugin that you can use to let visitors to leave a rating. You star ratings will also be shown in Google search results.

Once YASR is installed and activated on your WordPress site, go to settings > Yet Another Stars Rating: Settings.

In the General Settings tab, you can enable Auto Insert a rating widget to either before or after the post. You can choose the size, exclude pages, add custom text before or after the starts. • Product
  • Place
  • Recipe
  • Blogposting

Overall rating vs. Visitor Votes

Overall rating is also called author rating. It’s a rating given by the person who writes the post, ideal for product review posts. Visitor votes, on the other hand, is an indication of how visitors like your post or the product you reviewed in the post.

If you write regular blog posts such a tutorial, you only need to enable visitor votes to let visitors rate your tutorial.

  • Never make fake reviews as it looks bad to both Google search engine and visitors.
  • To get higher rating from visitors, all you need to do is improve user experience.
  • If you can contact your visitors, by all means contact them asking for rating and review. They will feel important for being noticed and they like it.
